Wild Gnomos is an audiovisual project consisting on the self-building of small wood cabins and other structures, as well as the creation of areas for horticulture, fruit growing and chicken farming, according to a sustainable and off-grid lifestyle.
On the channel you can find playlists about off grid living, wood- and stone-working, farming or chicken raising. Several video series are also available, including "The Wood Cabin," about building a small cabin without power tools or previous experience; and "Off Grid Cabin Diary", where I show you how I have built my wood home in a remote forest, where I have lived off grid for over two years.
Remember that I am not an expert builder, carpenter or survivalist, and what I show you I have learned in a self-taught way. I hope you enjoy the content, and I welcome you to the Azorean forest!

I welcome you to my wild home🪓!
After 10 years living on the Azores islands (North Atlantic Ocean, Portugal) I have decided to leave my cabin and my job as a researcher at the University, and leave the archipelago to venture into a new project, this time in Galicia (Northwest of Spain).
After months of searching, and seeing almost a hundred plots of land, at the beginning of 2023 I acquired three adjacent plots of land, with a total area of approximately 30,000 square meters. This land, located near the small town of Parada de Sil (Ourense), consists of a valley formed by oak and birch forests, and large meadows, which were used for decades for raising native livestock.
The property is divided in the middle by a small stream, and has ancient granite stone walls, almost demolished, and completely dominated by brambles and bushes.
I am not starting from scratch on this trip, as I already have some knowledge that I have acquired during the construction of my Azores cabin, and a brief experience living off the grid.
My goal is to create a home with my own hands, in the middle of a natural setting, according to a simple, sustainable and off-grid lifestyle.
The most important part of the project will consist of the construction of a log cabin, approximately 30 square meters, erected on granite pillars.
The entire land and its facilities will be completely supplied with renewable energy, mainly solar energy. The water supply will come from a rainwater collection system, a well and specific collections from the stream. In terms of food, I will have orchards, fruit trees, greenhouses and chickens, trying to be as self-sufficient as possible.
Additionally, to obtain extra income that will allow me to purchase products and services that I am unable to produce, I will build two small wooden cabins to rent, and in the future, I will create a blueberry and berry plantation that will allow me to sell the surplus.
You can see this entire process from scratch, live, completely free on my UA-cam and Twitch channels. You have to keep in mind that I am not a professional in the construction, carpentry, forestry or agricultural sector, much less in the content creation sector!

A lot of oak and birch I think? The trees also carry a lot of lichen and I wonder if the area you are in is quite damp? Mammoth job to clear the perimeter of the land and yet still leave some mature standing trees for wind break and shelter and biodiversity. Great you will have a good supply of firewood and maybe wood clippings? I am enjoying your approach to this project and enjoy seeing it from the beginning. Your work ethic is awesome. A lot of clearance just like the Azores cabin but without the lava rock and tufa? All the best as you proceed - and I hope planning and building legalities go smoothly too!

Did you mill all this wood yourself ? If not it would cost a fortune to build . I have to build my shed out of tooth picks and bubble gum over here in Canada because someone is trying to kill our country lol Great job though !
I bought the wood at a local sawmill, using Japanese cedar, which is the most abundant wood. Pretty cheap.

Não sei de cor o modelo, mais é o mais alto da gama de bateria. Nunca aprensentou problemas, e isso que caiu do telhado varias vezes!
